Termite elimination is a construction standard set by the Ministry of Construction for newly built works. However, in reality, investors or contractors often skip this phase to save costs, or if implemented, it is done very carelessly. They often hesitate and waver when asked about protecting property from termite attacks.
Hien Luong – Ben Hai Historic Monument Conservation Area in Quảng Trị province with an investment capital of over 680 million dong, started construction in September 2003. However, after only more than 2 years of construction, the house was severely infested by termites. The pillars and floorboards were hollowed out by termites, leading to the construction being unable to remain open for visitors. Another construction in Cao Thượng village, north of Bắc Giang province, suffered the same fate. Half of the 48 ironwood pillars, each with a circumference of two meters, of this famous communal house were severely damaged by termites and other wood-destroying insects. Half of the 48 ironwood pillars, each with a circumference of two meters, of this famous communal house were severely damaged by termites and other wood-destroying insects. This has left the communal house with famous sculptural architecture over 300 years old facing the risk of collapse at any time.
Due to their wood-eating habit along with an extremely large number of members, termites are considered a leading pest threatening construction works, houses, and many other important human items. At the same time, termites are also the cause of foundation subsidence, damaging and collapsing many large constructions, bridges, culverts, and important dikes and dams. These seemingly small creatures silently attack unprotected constructions and cause tremendously large damages.

A construction work infested by termites
Current termite control methods used are mainly using chemical soil treatment for foundations before construction to eliminate and prevent harmful termite species for the building. This is a popular method quite widely used because the implementation method is fairly simple. However, over time, this method proves to be less effective. Although there is a warranty, due to inappropriate treatment methods or weather impacts, in reality, the warranty period is not guaranteed, with many places only reaching 1-2 years compared to the 5-year commitment. In addition, the chemicals used are quite toxic, potentially causing environmental pollution and harming humans and pets. Therefore, the demand arises for a measure to eliminate and prevent termites to protect construction works for the long term, while also being safe for the environment and human health.

Soil treatment method causing many harmful effects to humans and the environment
Currently, many countries such as the USA, Australia, and countries in Asia are using a more advanced technology that overcomes the weaknesses of existing methods. That is the Exterra termite interception and baiting system. Mr. Nguyen Bao Son – Deputy General Director of Vietnam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFC) – the exclusive distributor of Exterra in Vietnam said: "We have researched a lot about this social creature, understanding them thoroughly to offer a suitable method without using toxic chemicals."
Invented in the USA, Exterra technology is not just individual products but an entire comprehensive termite interception and control system. Exterra creates an ideal environment to attract termites. The stations act as a barrier surrounding the construction against termite attacks from the outside and eliminate them before they enter to destroy the building without using toxic chemical substances that pollute the surrounding environment. In particular, the system has permanent termite control effectiveness at protected constructions. Precisely because of its outstanding advantages compared to conventional solutions, the Exterra termite interception and baiting system has been conquering many fastidious customers around the world.

Installing the Exterra system at The Everich
Currently, over 80.000 km of constructions around the world have been and are being protected by Exterra against termite damage. In Vietnam, many large and important constructions have installed the Exterra system, such as Ea Krông Krou hydroelectric dam (Khanh Hoa), Big C supermarket (Binh Duong), The Everich Luxury Apartment Building & Commercial Center (Ho Chi Minh City), large resorts in the central region, private villas, and many other historical, cultural, and economic value works of the country.
